NEW YORK AVENUE BRIDGE
Location: Washington, D.C. United States
Lighting Designer: Alexander Cooper
Sculpture Designer: Kent Bloomer
The ‘Gateway Wings’ project was to provide a grand entrance from the eastern corner of the District of Columbia to the developing “NOMA” district i.e. (North Of Massachusetts Avenue). It was conceived by the DDOT (District Department of Transportation) to crown the restoration of a 700’ bridge over the Main Amtrak Railroad tracks approaching Union Station. The Kent Bloomer Studio won a closed competition conducted by the Council of Arts and Humanities, Washington DC, to design and build the Wings completed in the Summer of 2014. The lighting fixtures were calibrated and provided by Greg Horn and choreographed into motion and variation of hue by Alexander Cooper.
